Plan a Scenic Getaway in 2018.
Kiwi travellers seeking some holiday inspiration have until mid-December to learn about wonders of Scenic with Getaway, following the popular Australian travel show’s debut on New Zealand television screens at the weekend.
The show will continue its run on Three from 4.30pm to 5pm every Saturday afternoon until 16 December 2017. A Scenic river cruise on France’s beautiful Seine River was the first inspiring destination to feature, with two remaining episodes dedicated to the Seine airing on 7 and 14 October.Hosted by Catriona Rowntree, the Seine episodes focus on the many highlights in the north of France, from the historic city of Rouen and the Somme Battlefields including the Villers-Bretonneux memorial, to the coastal town of Honfleur and Normandy’s D-Day landing beaches, as well as Monet’s Garden in Giverny. Next up will be another French gem, the Rhone River, with three episodes staring Livinia Nixon running on 21 and 28 October and 4 November.During the episodes, viewers will join Livinia as she discovers some of the most enchanting towns and villages the South of France has to offer, including the idyllic town of Chalon-sur-Saône and the village of Beaune, as well as the iconic city of Avignon and the ancient city of Arles. Between 11 and 25 November, Jamie Durie will introduce viewers to Scenic’s Jewels of Europe cruise along the picturesque Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.
Viewers will watch Jamie as he explores the ancient Thermal Baths of Budapest, enjoys a Viennese private concert at Palais Lichtenstein, cycles through Dürnstein and discovers the baroque Benedictine monastery.While subsequent episodes will see Jamie’s Scenic Space-Ship continue its adventure to the medieval Czech town of Cesky Krumlov, and through the beautiful German cities of Regensburg, Nuremberg and Bamberg, before he ends his indulgent journey with a medieval banquet at Marksburg Castle, overlooking the Rhine River. Scenic’s television run will finish up in December during three Getaway episodes screening on 2, 9 and 16 December.
The final three episodes will explore western Canada with presenter David Reyne. Beginning in Whistler, episode one will see David take on Vancouver’s famous Capilano Suspension Bridge Park before exploring historic Gastown and the colourful Granville Markets.The following week, David visits the capital of British Columbia – Victoria, where he experiences a traditional high tea at the beautiful Fairmont Empress hotel, the world famous Butchart Gardens and a whale watching cruise through the harbour, before boarding the Rocky Mountaineer for a spectacular rail journey to stunning Lake Louise. In the final episode, David travels north along the incredible Icefields Parkway where he visits the Columbia Icefield, Banff and the Calgary Stampede.
